The Ministry of Higher Education Recruitment Committee Announces, for the First Time in the Kingdom's History, 51,647 International Students Enrolled in Jordanian Higher Education Institutions

The Secretary-General of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and Chairman of the International Students Recruitment Committee, Dr. Mamoun Al-Debie, announced that the number of Arab and international students newly enrolled in Jordanian higher education institutions at the start of the 2024-2025 academic year across all programs, disciplines, and degrees has reached 11,814 students. This brings the total number of international students studying in Jordanian institutions to 51,647, representing 113 countries worldwide. The students are distributed as follows: 19,706 students in community colleges, university colleges, and public universities, and 31,941 students in private institutions. Compared to the previous year (2023-2024), which saw a total of 46,362 international students, this year's total reflects an increase of 5,285 students.

The Ministry emphasized that this increase is attributed to Jordan's unique advantages, including the high quality of education, a reputation for excellence, safety, and security, as well as various political, social, and economic factors that make Jordan an attractive destination for international students. Furthermore, significant efforts have been made by the Ministry's International Students Recruitment Committee, the International Students Affairs Unit, and the Jordan Tourism Board's Educational Tourism Unit.

Recently, the Ministry, in collaboration with the Jordan Tourism Board, which serves as its strategic partner in educational tourism, launched a series of initiatives aimed at supporting international students and attracting more to study in Jordan under the theme "You Are Jordan’s Ambassadors." These initiatives include annual ceremonies to honor top international graduates, a five-a-side football league for international students, an annual Ramadan Quran recitation competition, a contest for the best promotional video about studying in Jordan, regular meetings with cultural attachés and advisors, and the introduction of a unified electronic admissions system for international students, launched for the first time at the start of the 2024-2025 academic year.

The Ministry highlighted the economic benefits of increasing the number of international students on the national economy and higher education institutions. A higher number of international students enhances universities' global rankings, improves perceptions of Jordan as an educational hub, and leverages these students as ambassadors for Jordanian institutions in their home countries. Additionally, their presence has a significant economic impact on various sectors in the Kingdom.

This increase serves as a motivator for Jordanian institutions, both public and private, to introduce new programs aligned with regional and global labor market demands, establish dedicated units for international student affairs, and intensify promotional efforts. Collaboration among the Ministry, educational institutions, and relevant organizations is crucial to addressing challenges international students may face and providing comprehensive support throughout their academic journey until they return to their home countries after graduation.

It is worth noting that the Ministry, in coordination with the Jordan Tourism Board and both public and private universities, participated in several university promotional fairs in Egypt, Bahrain, Oman, the UAE, and the Kurdistan Region of Iraq during 2023 and 2024. Delegations from the Ministry and the Board also visited countries such as Bahrain, Malaysia, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE to meet with officials responsible for student scholarships. In 2025, further participation in university promotional fairs and visits to targeted countries, such as Malaysia, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, and the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, is planned. Additionally, field visits to schools, fairs promoting Jordanian universities and colleges, and cultural exchange agreements with these countries are expected to strengthen cooperation in higher education and student exchange.
