The Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Azmi Mahafzah, Meets with Presidents of Private Jordanian Universities and Discusses the Launch of the Second Phase of the Electronic Connectivity Project and the Inclusion of Private Universities in the Unified Electronic Admission System for International Students

The Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Professor Dr. Azmi Mahafzah, met with the presidents of private Jordanian universities today, Thursday, March 13, 2025, in the Higher Education Council hall. The meeting was attended by the Secretary-General of the Ministry, Dr. Ma’moun Al-Dabie.
At the beginning of the meeting, Minister Mahafzah welcomed the attendees and congratulated them on the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan.

The discussion then moved on to several important issues, primarily the necessary mechanisms for keeping up with digital transformation in universities, particularly integrating artificial intelligence into the teaching of various disciplines, not just IT-related fields.

He also emphasized the need for cooperation and responsiveness to the directives of the National Council for Future Technology.

The minister provided an overview of the council’s work plan and the requirements for the education and higher education sector.
Additionally, the meeting covered the implementation of the recent recommendations issued by the Higher Education Council regarding the fight against tobacco and smoking within university campuses.
The discussion also included the initiation of the second phase of the electronic connectivity project with private universities (the communication system with Jordanian higher education institutions).

Previously, the Higher Education Council had issued a decision requiring public Jordanian universities to establish electronic connectivity with the Unified Admissions Coordination Unit to facilitate real-time (online) access to students’ financial and academic data, benefiting the ministry’s work and enabling the issuance of any student-related statistics needed by the Higher Education Council or other official bodies in the country.

A similar decision is expected to be issued soon, mandating private universities to implement this electronic connectivity.
Furthermore, the meeting addressed the inclusion of private universities in the unified electronic admission system for international (non-Jordanian) students, similar to public universities, as part of the strategic plan for attracting international students for the years 2023-2027, which was approved by the Council of Ministers.

The Higher Education Council had previously assigned the Unified Admissions Coordination Unit to digitize the unified electronic admission system for international students, which was launched at the beginning of the 2024-2025 academic year.

To ensure the success of this national initiative, titled "Study in Jordan," private universities need to be included in the system.
The meeting also explored the necessary measures for the success of the Jordanian Universities Exhibition, organized by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in collaboration with its strategic partner, the Jordan Tourism Board, and the Jordanian Embassy in Riyadh.

The exhibition aims to promote studying in Jordanian universities and is scheduled to be held in Riyadh on April 16-17, 2025, and in Tabuk on April 19-20, 2025.
The meeting was attended by officials from the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, including Mr. Shadi Masaadeh, Director of the Secretariat of the Higher Education Council, and Mr. Muhannad Al-Khatib, the Minister’s Media Advisor and Director of the Unified Admissions Coordination Unit.
