AMMAN, JORDAN (September 29, 2021)

Under the patronage of H.E Prof. Mohammad Abu Qudais, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) launched the Pre-Service Teacher Education Program in partnership with Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Ministry of Education, Queen Rania Teacher Academy, Civil Service Bureau, and Accreditation and Quality Assurance Commission for Higher Education Institutions with the attendance of the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and the Civil Service Bureau.

The program will be offered at University of Jordan, Yarmouk University and Hashemite Universities. The universities join the pilot program at Mu’tah University to prepare university students who want to be teachers to become certified educators equipped with the knowledge and skills to deliver a high-quality learning experience for students.

Through the program, the graduate females and males who are aspiring to teach grades 4 - 10 will supplement their subject-specific degree studies with courses on interactive teaching methods, effective classroom management and use of technology,integration issues such as gender equity, inclusion of students with disabilities, and environmental awareness. These courses will give teachers the tools and competencies to make their classes more engaging and have a positive impact on schools and student outcomes

The Minister welcomed the attendees and expressed his satisfaction with progress so far. He praised the good coordination and continuous communication between all partners and stakeholders, and their commitment to implementing the program. He also expressed his gratitude and thanks to the USAID for their support and implementation of this program, and for their distinguished role in supporting the education sector in Jordan.

Carlin. “We are proud to partner with the Ministry of Higher Education and Jordan’s public universities to train teachers throughout Jordan, so they enter the classroom with the most innovative and advanced skills.” 

With the expansion and adoption of the pre-service teacher education program in four universities across Jordan, more future teachers will acquire critical skills and be able to provide quality learning to students from diverse socio-economic backgrounds in rural and urban areas.
